This is much faster than doing it over your network with Samba like needed on most of the programs. I would say probably the best feature of recalbox is it keeps the majority of your SD card formatted as fat (or fat32 can't remember), but it's great because I was able to easily transfer my rom collection through my microsd to usb adapter on my desktop. Recalbox overall was pretty nice and really easy to set up. This caused me to give up on Lakka for now. I spent hours reading through multiple forum posts from plenty of other people having issues similar to that, went through all the recommended fixes and could never actually get it working. I honestly never had this issue with Recalbox, Retropie, etc, but god was it a pain in the ass. The other issue I ran into with lakka was getting audio through HDMI. It completely forgot the information so I was back to running another ethernet cable. I went through a tutorial on setting it up managed to get connected was told that it would connect from now on and didn't. I figured oh 's just a one time thing it will be worth if since the interface is so nice, etc. So you have to go back to dealing with SSH / Putty (or similar programs) to manually configure WIFI. There is no graphic interface to connect to WIFI. Lakka I think overall is nice and will one day be a very viable option for me to re-vist, but again things that should be simple are way too complicated. I then stumbled across Lakka which I thought looked gorgeous as it's basically just Retroarch in itself. Suddenly I was having to edit the config file through putty and SSH just to get my interface back.a little ridiculous. I found this kind of silly as it's a "known issue" yet I don't see how something like this hasn't been fixed.

I then saw that you could install other themes, but once you load it up with games from more than 10 systems EmulationStation basically breaks and goes to a grey screen if you try and use a theme that has a background appropriate for each system you hover on. I wasn't the biggest fan of the relatively bland UI. You will notice this depending on what settings you need to tweak and how suddenly you're transferred to a very dos almost bios like configuration screen.

You have the base raspberry OS, retroarch, emulation station, etc. Honestly overall it worked pretty good, but in my opinion it has a very "stitched together feel". I started off using Retropie as it seemed to be the most popular option I read about. Well I am a recent Raspberry Pi 3 adopter, but in the month I've had it I've spent WAY more time tinkering than actually playing games.
